The race is decided by total time, not by who left first. Total time is your reaction time plus how long the car took to cover the track. Both numbers are on the timeslip, the results screen that pops up when a race ends.
A worked example
These numbers are an example, so you can see the addition. They are not a target time for a specific car.
- Car A leaves at 0.010 and runs 8.000. Total: 8.010.
- Car B leaves at 0.080 and runs 7.400. Total: 7.480.
Car A had the better light. Car B had the better car, and Car B wins. A quicker light shaves a tiny slice off the total. A faster car shaves the whole run.
The other way around matters too. A red light blanks your total. The quicker car still loses if it left early. See How to Get a Good Reaction Time.
How to make the car side quicker
- Finish a race and read the 1,000-foot time on the timeslip, not only the reaction time.
- If the light is legal and the run is the problem, tap the garage icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Parts.
- Tap and hold a part, then drag it onto the part already on the car. As you drag it up, the bars show the difference. Drop it to equip it.
- Run the race. The next timeslip shows the parts that actually ran.
Swapping is the full path in How to Change Cars or Parts. Raising a part you already own is in How to Upgrade Cars or Parts.
